Welcome to El Paso Independent School District's Vocal Music program.

Click on the various tabs above to read about programs, locate times and places for events, and more.

Pre-K through 12th grade students have the opportunity to:
  • learn proper vocal techniques,
  • read music notation,
  • study music history/cultures, and
  • perform in campus/district-wide/community performances individually or in small/large ensembles.

Instruction is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for music.  Students not only sing, but also play various instruments like the recorders, handbells, and other rhythm instruments.  5th grade students attend the El Paso Symphony's "Young Peoples Concerts" in the spring.  Campuses host a variety of performances that showcase the talents of their students.

Twenty-six elementary campuses receive instruction from Vocal Music Specialists while the remaining schools receive quality music instruction from classroom teachers &/or our district's "Mobile Melodies" instructors.

Elementary, middle, and high school students sing in a variety of choral ensembles: mixed, treble, tenor/bass, jazz, mariachi, and madrigal choirs.

Performances include:
  • the annual "Parade of Choirs" in the fall
  • Vocal Solo & Ensemble contest in the spring
  • Choral Concert & Sight Reading contests in the spring
  • campus &/or community performances, outreach programs, & more

Middle and high school students compete in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) events as well as the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-Region/Area/State competitions.   High school students selected to the state level perform in the TMEA All-State Music Convention held in February in San Antonio, TX.
